At SMRI, we are so thankful to be associated with the Selective Mutism Anxiety Research and Treatment Center (SMart Center). It is because of this organization that we are able to gather the amount of data that we do and utilize their events as a way to promote our research and S-CAT®!
Today and tomorrow we are exhibiting at the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) Convention in Atlantic City, NJ. See a photo of our booth below → and stop by if you’re attending the convention!
The goal of this exhibition is to spread awareness. Too often children with Selective Mutism are misunderstood. This convention has over 35,000 attendees-all of whom are people that are working in a school environment! In other words, these people are all working in a setting where SM is typically the most obvious. Meaning, these educators are very likely to know a child/teen with SM.
If we are able to share our treatment strategies and affect even one child’s life for the better, exhibiting will be worth it. Just halfway through Day 1 and we’ve already met so many wonderful educators that want to know how to help children in their own classrooms.
**If you happen to be someone that works in education and would like some more information about what YOU can do to help a child you know in school, please email us at info@SelectiveMutismResearch.org to receive some helpful handouts and more information.**
